Design And Construction Of 8 Standard Shipping Containers

The Maison Container Lille was designed and constructed in 2010 by architect Patrick Partouche. It stands out in its rural surroundings due to its unique blend of materials.

This two-level dwelling was constructed using 8 standard 40 ft recycled shipping containers, creating a stunning 240 sq m home.

The shipping containers stacked on top of each other make up the two levels of the house. The house is connected by a spiral staircase.

The first level includes a one car garage, a storage area, and an open floor layout with a kitchen and dining area.

Upstairs, the design features double-height spaces for the ground floor by cutting out parts of the floor for metal catwalks. This provides access to the three bedrooms, bathroom, and office.

The roof is more of a protective covering and works to let air flow around the roof and keep it from overheating,

The house adheres to all external regulations of its subdivision and municipality and is also energy and acoustically-efficient.

As a further touch, French architect Patrick Partouche repurposed metal parts from the containers and were used to create furniture and decorative elements throughout the home.

It took 6 months to prefabricate the shipping container units for The Maison Container Lille off-site. The eight shipping containers were then transported by truck and assembled on-site within 3 days using a crane.
