Greetings from Canada! 🙂
We at Container Home Hub are excited to bring you an exclusive peek into the personal shipping container cabin built by the owner of Ben Homes in Canada. The photos are breathtaking, and the design speaks for itself! 🙂 Todd, the owner, shared that the exterior shots were taken last season, while the interior images showcase the space this spring.
The journey for this build began with a solid foundation of cement and a single shipping container.
Here we see the cabin coming together. With the cedar siding in place, the shipping container starts to feel more like a cabin built for the woods.
The addition of the pergola gives the space a new dimension, perfect for gatherings or quiet moments outside. As the deck takes shape, the cabin moves from a simple structure to a welcoming retreat, blending practicality with the surrounding nature.
Here are a few key details about this unique cabin:
- Located along the scenic Muskoka River in Ontario, Canada.
- The cabin is built from one shipping container and includes a cozy sleeping area with a bunk bed, trundle bed, and ample storage. It comfortably sleeps a family of four and also features a compact kitchen and dining area.
- A 12×14 screened-in seating area provides a perfect spot for relaxation, and a 3-piece bathroom sits on the opposite side.
- All three main areas—Sleeping, Living, and Washroom—are sheltered under a single, insulated roof.
- The exterior is clad in clear cedar siding, adding warmth, while the rest of the cottage is constructed almost entirely from cedar.
This cozy screened-in seating area offers the ideal space for relaxation, allowing you to enjoy the outdoors without the inconvenience of mosquitoes.
Here we see the cabin, settled in its surroundings. The slightly weathered siding with the trees and fallen leaves give the cabin a natural lived-in feel.
Around the back, a small slide tucked next to the cabin seamlessly blends the play area into the surrounding woods, creating a charming balance between the home and its environment.
The clean lines of the sliding glass and container doors contrast with the natural textures.
The light cedar siding not only adds natural warmth to the cabin but also provides durability and weather resistance.
Here, we see the cabin’s design truly embracing its surroundings. Rather than clearing the trees, the builders worked around them, allowing nature to remain a part of the structure. A tree stands proudly in the middle of the deck, merging the natural and built environments in a way that feels effortless. This thoughtful integration blurs the line between the cabin and the forest, reinforcing the idea that this is not just a cabin in the woods, but a home that’s part of the woods.
Inside, we see this cabin’s simplicity and the builder’s craftsmanship shine. The kitchen, with its warm cedar cabinetry, mirrors the natural beauty just outside the window. Clean lines and minimalist design keep the space functional without feeling cramped. The freshly installed drawers, show the attention to detail in maximizing storage in a small footprint. With the large window above the sink, even everyday tasks like washing dishes offer a view of the surrounding forest. It’s clear that this cabin was built not just to house, but to connect its occupants to the natural world
featuring a bunk bed setup that maximizes storage and space efficiency.
The cozy sleeping area makes the most of every inch of space. The bunk beds above and below, create a perfect nook for the kids. The warm cedar walls continue inside, making the room feel inviting and connected to the rest of the cabin. A small window lets in natural light, brightening up the space and offering a view outside, while built-in storage keeps things organized. This is more than just a sleeping area—it’s a fun and practical space that makes family life in the cabin comfortable and enjoyable.
Special thanks to Todd for sharing his beautiful cabin with us and our readers! While the cabin has a cozy charm, it’s surprisingly spacious for a single shipping container. Also, those little design details really stand out—just adorable!
What do you think—could you see yourself living here? ☺
