Greetings from Missouri! 🙂
Today on Container Home Hub, we are highlighting this stylish and classy shipping container home in St. Charles, Missouri. In case you can’t tell right off the bat, this is one of the most unique and classically designed container homes we have ever featured. The style of the exterior alone is worth checking out, but just wait until you see the inside.
The interior of this shipping container home is truly something to behold. The style is incredibly unique and specific to the owners’ vision. The exposed metal of the eight shipping containers that make up the home’s main structure brings an air of that upcycled aesthetic to every inch of the interior. The artwork (which is by the owner, Zach Smithey) is a nod to Americana and the history of the South, where they have chosen to build their dream home.
The fixtures and wood features in this shipping container home are reclaimed and have the patina and wear of the places from which they came. This is one of the things that is so bold about this home. The owners were not afraid to show where their materials came from and where they have been. This gives the whole home a cohesive, but weathered feel.
If this shipping container home is big on one thing, it is texture. Everywhere you look in this home, there is a different tactile experience and a different pattern. It might seem, in theory, that this would make the interior look too busy and distracting. However, it is done so well that everything holds together and comes across as stylish and beautifully coordinated.
The kitchen is a little more simple and clean looking than the rest of the shipping container home. However, it is still tastefully decorated with quirky mannequin artwork and bold splashes of color. The rope wrapped pillars are a touch that we love and think really gives the kitchen a rustic, almost tropical feel.
The color of the raw metal from the shipping containers is one of the things that makes this home so beautifully decorated and easy on the eyes. The pale greens and off-whites match so well with the reclaimed wood and the recycled materials that make up so many of the furnishings and features in this shipping container home. We think these color choices are incredibly smart and definitely show an artist’s eye when it comes to interior design.
One of the most unique features of this shipping container home is the design of the bed. The owners were tired of standard headboards that didn’t offer any support when watching T.V. or reading, so they came up with this innovative bed frame. We are not surprised at all that these owners were able to improve upon the traditional headboard with their vast imaginations and sense of style.
The bathroom in this shipping container home is just as heavily stylized as the rest of the house. The minimalist vessel sinks and the separated mirrors are such beautiful and clever choices. We love the live-edge, polished wood countertop as well. Bonus points for the heavy chains that secure it to the wall and provide an interesting, industrial feel to the whole fixture.
The backyard area features large, swinging doors that create an open feel leading from the inside to the outside. This is a perfect place for hosting parties and large gatherings of people who want to come look at the shipping container home. In fact, when the owners held an open house, over 2,000 people showed up from the town to come check it out. After having a look at the whole home, it is no surprise that so many were interested in seeing how it all came together.
